Overview:
Project Concern International (PCI) India has been working in India since 1998. Over these several decades, PCI has maintained a diversified portfolio, working in the areas of health, nutrition and community development with programs focusing on low-income, vulnerable, and hard-to-reach populations in close partnership with national and state governments as well as civil society organizations.

In India, PCI works in close collaboration with various social actors to create an enabling environment to improve the social position of marginalized populations, especially women and girls, as well as strengthen convergent actions on the ground. Knowledge and evidence-based decision making, and data driven management have been a hallmark of PCI s programs in India.
Purpose of Assignment:
PCI India is implementing DEWEE initiative which aims at enhancing income and livelihoods 10,000 self-help group (SHG) women entrepreneurs through adoption and implementation of decentralized renewable energy (DRE) in the state of Uttar Pradesh. With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), and Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), PCI India is providing technical support to Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UPSRLM) in, (i) identifying 10,000 different women enterprises under the fold of SHG women households, (ii) developing financial products for each type of enterprise through convergence with different govt. schemes/departments and microfinance institutions, (iii) ensuring availability of affordable finances, (iv) identification of competent vendors and supporting the enterprise owners in solar PV installation, and, (v) tracking the technical performance of the solar installations and financial performance of the enterprises to ascertain the evidence of the DRE interventions. PCI India has already identified the decentralized Take Home Ration (THR) production and distribution initiative of the UPSRLM, wherein the SHG women have setup 204 THR manufacturing units with the production capacity of 5MT/day. These manufacturing units are women owned and operated by the SHG women and serve dual objective of providing nutritious food to the vulnerable rural population (specifically 0-6 years old children and pregnant and lactating women) and providing income opportunities to 4,000 SHG (20 women per THR unit) women. Additionally, the program aims to identify additional 10,000 women enterprises and extend the benefit of renewable energy to enhance their business income.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Development of various types of training resources (modules, presentations, etc.) and conduct trainings for different stakeholders (UPSRLM, vendors, community cadres, etc.).
  • Conduct need assessment of those to be trained as well as evaluate performance of those trained, to plan initial/refresher training as needed.
  • Using storytelling / gamification / singing / theatrics that is sensitive to local context for communicating messages to audience in a fun-based / interesting way for higher retention and good learning experience.
  • Organize group meetings for participants to allow experience sharing and conduct field visits and home visits as necessary.
  • Plan and lead community interactions and group activities.
  • Develop plans for training community cadres in coordination with field team.
  • Attend community meetings including those with PRI members and undertake visits to beneficiary household for documenting case studies, as needed.
  • Compile and submit technical reports as required.
  • Engage with diverse audiences to build trust and productive relationship to co-create impactful knowledge products.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the context, reflect, learn to adapt, seek feedback and be receptive to it.
  • Report potential roadblocks in intervention to your supervisor for timely action.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualification required: Graduate degree in entrepreneurship development or business management or social sciences.
Experience required:
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing field programs in a development organization.
  • Brings relevant experience in community mobilization and leading capacity building interventions for multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with women entrepreneurs/SHG women from rural geographies will be preferred.
  • Previous work experience of working closely with State Mission Management Unit (SMMU) supported by DAY-NRLM will be a plus.

  • Ability to work under pressure and against tight timelines.
  • Brings visibility and sensitize decision makers to relevant emerging issues.
  • A self-starter, who has attention to detail and works proactively, independently and is comfortable working with other teams.
  • Excellent oral and written Hindi and English skills.
  • Understanding and efficient with working on Microsoft Office.
  • Should have scientific temper, optimistic and enthusiastic
