Product Manager - Lending Insights

About Setu:
- Setu is working to reimagine financial products for the next billion users.
- How do you put a dent in India's economy when most of her population cannot afford insurance, credit, investments, etc. through the formal channels that you and I take for granted? Our auto-wallas cannot use Cred, our security guards cannot use Zerodha. There are several examples-you get the idea.
- How can we enable them to get on such platforms?
- By reducing the cost of distribution If we break down financial products such as loans, insurance and investments into their fundamental building blocks, and offer them as APIs to businesses, they then package these APIs into highly custom apps, tailor-made for their specific customers, instead of a generic one-size-for-all approach that is the norm today.
- This also enables them to go live with a fintech product or service in a matter of days, not months.
- We believe that fintech will be a core part of every company's offering. And at Setu, we're building the fintech infrastructure that will accelerate this.
More about Setu:
Setu is an acquired entity of Pine Labs, one of the fastest growing fintech companies in India and rapidly expanding its footprint in Asia, UAE, and the US. At Pine Labs, we're looking for those who share our core belief-'Every Day is Game Day'. We bring our best selves to work each day to realise our mission of enriching the world through the power of digital commerce and financial services.

Importance of the role:
- Setu's Data & Identity Business Unit (BU) is building new rails to improve how India shares and verifies user data in a secure, risk-mitigating, and consent-driven manner.
- We are currently building a set of APIs to revolutionise the way data sharing takes place for a plethora of use-cases.
- Lending is at the cusp of a digital revolution and democratisation, thanks to account aggregation and it's offshoot capabilities.
- This role is special, since it'll give you a deep look inside the business objectives and technical architecture of multiple companies across financial services.
- The learning potential is immense!
What will you do at Setu?
In this role, you'll spend your time:
- Product Development & Execution: Drive the vision and strategy for the Insights Product, working closely with cross-functional teams to design and deliver analytics solutions for credit risk, underwriting, and collections.
- Lending & Underwriting Solutions: Develop features around analyzing bank statements, alternate data, and other financial data for risk assessment and underwriting decisions. Oversee the creation of collections data modules to enhance risk mitigation strategies.
- Risk & Financial Analysis: Leverage commercial credit underwriting knowledge and financial risk modeling to build scalable and accurate risk analytics products.
- Guide the development of solutions that transform business and financial data into actionable insights.
- Team Leadership: Set clear goals and direction for the product team, providing regular feedback to ensure alignment with business outcomes. Collaborate effectively with data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of product features.
- Application of Machine Learning: Work with machine learning models to evaluate financial data points, such as bank statements and payments data to improve decision-making processes for underwriting and risk assessment.
- Helping improve the performance of existing products. This covers driving data, sharing volume, technical performance and uptime, and customer conversion analysis. You will also establish close relationships with the product owners at our partners to understand their concerns and requirements.
- Helping the Product team scope out pricing and market sizing for new products. This would involve creating collaterals - one-pagers and decks - to pitch and close new partnerships, alongside contributing individual analysis.
- Do whatever it takes to grow the Data Business Unit.
Who is the right fit for this role?
To excel in this role you will need:
- Experience: 2-3 years of experience in credit risk, lending, or underwriting product management. Hands-on experience in financial risk modeling, cash flow forecasting, and credit risk assessment.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the underwriting process, commercial credit, and financial risk management. Familiarity with alternative data sources and analytics for lending is a plus.
- Technical Acumen: Ability to understand and work with machine learning models applied to financial data. Experience with transforming data into actionable insights for risk mitigation and decision-making.
- Unimpeachable integrity: You always keep your word, no matter what. And you do the right thing, always. You own up to your mistakes and can reflect on your performance objectively.
- High Agency & a bias for action: You're someone who gets stuff done, highlights problems and solves them. You're able to work in zero-to-one environments. You will ensure we find our way to product market fit with new initiatives or take our initiatives that have found ground from 1, to 10, to 100.
- Strong organisational skills: As part of the role, you will need to be on top of multiple threads between different internal and external stakeholders. You will do well if you have a robust personal organisational system to keep track of all the moving parts.
- A keen analytical mind: You should be able to turn around a deck or a summary document in tight timelines with minimal oversight. You should at least have a basic understanding of personal finance management, cross selling and underwriting, as well as how machine learning models can be applied to financial data.
- Familiarity with tools of the analytics trade: Decks, Docs, and Dashboards, with prior exposure to writing basic SQL queries and modifying complex ones.
- A burning desire to learn and develop deep fintech expertise - building API infrastructure is a lot harder (and more rewarding) than consumer fintech.
You will need to learn about:
- Architecture of legacy systems: In order to break new ground and close partnerships, you must first understand where existing systems are broken.
- Setu platform architecture and the role of APIs in financial services.
- To be a technical wizard: Familiarity with API products or the financial services ecosystem
