Principal Engineer - Transmission Systems

Job Description Summary You will be part of the core team at GE Digital Grid Software Business that is using software to enable de-carbonized future of energy for the planet by designing building delivering and maintaining software applications & services for next generation Grid Software that orchestrates 40% of the world power today. This position is responsible for building the next generation GridOS based Advanced Energy Management Systems (AEMS). You will be responsible for design development and optimization of highly complex modules critical components or a whole application/product in its entirety that enable delivery of GridOS AEMS to the market. This position is both hands on role and will also need to mentor technical staff and shape the technology.

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role you will:

Be responsible for providing technical leadership and defining developing and building our next generation GridOS AEMS software modules in a fast paced and agile development environment.

Mentor guide and coach different development teams working on GridOS AEMS software modules by providing domain knowledge training guiding architectural decisions and working together with teams build the software modules.

Provide guidance to developers with either planning and execution and/or design architecture using agile methodologies such as SCRUM.

Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & develop a strategy and vision.

Capture system level requirements by brainstorming with CTO Sr. Architects Data Scientists Businesses & Product Managers

Leads impact assessment and decision related to technology choices design /architectural considerations and implementation strategy.

Works with team to develop software testing and integration practices. Works with SIRE team to develop integration strategy. Identifies realistic data sets that can be used for enhancing testing practices.

Subject matter expert in AEMS and related Grid management products. Expert in navigating through ambiguity and prioritizing conflicting asks.

Expert level skills in design architecture and development with an ability to take a deep dive in the implementation aspects if the situation demands.

Ensure system compliance with regulatory standards and grid reliability requirements.

Drive innovation in energy management focusing on grid efficiency renewable integration and advanced analytics.

Evaluate and recommend new technologies to accelerate software development as well as enhance Grid system performance and reliability.

Desired Characteristics

Technical Expertise:

Deep knowledge in energy management systems and related Grid technologies

Knowledge of GridOS and related model software tech stack including microservices and container technologies.

Facilitates and coaches software engineering team sessions on requirements estimation and alternative approaches to team sizing and estimation. Leads a community of practice around estimation to share best practices among teams.

Is open to embracing a new language/stack/polyglot

Job Requirements

PhD Degree in Computer Science or u201CSTEMu201D Majors (Science Technology Engineering and Math) with minimum 15 years of experience.

Must have extensive hands on experience in Grid Software with focus on AEMS

Must have experience in installing and commissioning software and customer interactions

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in working in industrial environments is a strong plus

Working on data system across multiple operating systems/cloud environments is considered strong plus

Advanced degrees such as PhD specially in AI power systems is a strong plus
