Advising international best practices for implementation.
A typical electrical audit and inspection will include the following:
Review of Electrical Installations
Inspection of Electrical Panels: Examine distribution boards, switchboards, and control panels for proper operation, maintenance, and safety.
Cabling and Wiring Systems: Assess the condition of cables, conduits, and wiring for wear and tear, insulation, degradation, and compliance with applicable standards.
Earthing and Grounding: Verify the adequacy of earthing systems to prevent electric shock and equipment damage.
Electrical Equipment and Appliances: Inspect equipment for proper ratings, overloading, and compliance with safety norms.
Lightning Protection Systems: Ensure that lightning protection systems are in place and functioning effectively.
Transformer and DG set Safety: Assess the operational safety of transformers and generators, including ventilation, load balancing, and proper protection.
Compliance with Regulatory Standards: Verify adherence to relevant electrical safety codes such as Indian Electricity Rules, National Electrical Code (NEC), and other local regulations.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification.
Electrical Load Balancing: Evaluate load distribution to prevent overloading of circuits.
Emergency Power Systems: Assess the readiness of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), generators, and backup systems.
Short-Circuit and Overload Protection: Verify the functionality of circuit breakers, fuses, and protective relays to prevent short-circuits and overloads.
Arc Flash Hazards: Identify and mitigate arc flash risks and ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for employees
In brief the typical roles and responsibilities include:
Creating scope of work for standard electrical audits.
Conducting the Electrical Safety audit as per the agreed scope.
