Network Planning
Role:
Undertakes the planning, design and development of transport network across the NA region to support multiple projects. Assimilates various internal and external customer requirements, creates new network capacity solutions, assembles the required equipment augment costs and budgets and participates in the overall network augment approval and trigger process. Undertakes specific network simplification and network enablement projects. Ensures efficient and timely deployment or removal of equipment, meeting customer demand through analyzing current network designs, port/route consumption trends, new technologies and future opportunities for augmentation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Applies detailed understanding of current network configuration and technology to ensure capacity and efficiency of the planned designs.
- Responsible for supporting our ILEC TDM Retraction Initiative. This involves developing a project plan and cost estimate to remove network equipment from the ILEC space. This could include SONET, DWDM, TDM and Metro Ethernet devices
- Documents detailed technical methodology for installation of network equipment of moderate complexity, including written directions, graphical equipment layouts, and equipment topology.
- Defines requirements, develops, implements and uses reporting procedures and methodologies to analyze network utilization and predict growth trends. Troubleshoots reporting errors and identifies data specific problems within large sets of data. Manually facilitates correction of reporting errors caused by data problems.
- Prepares status/progress reports and updates management on projects.
- Participates in development of reports. May present new reports and summaries of network data to Management, Product Teams, and Network Planning.
- Assists in requirements, development, implementation and use of reporting procedures and methodologies to analyze network utilization and predicts growth trends under periodic supervision.
- May participate in definition of new network configurations, technologies, and best planning practices.
- Demonstrated capacity to focus and deliver on multiple objectives in a dynamic, multi-faceted, fast-paced environment. An ability to reprioritize and embrace change is a significant requirement.
Technical Competency:
- Experience of working in a telecommunications company responsible for Network Planning,
- Ability to demonstrate experience of Planning across a number of TX Products and technologies
- Proven ability to accurately control & forecast budget spend
- Collaborate with Network Technology to optimize network utilization minimizing capital investment
- Solid understanding of Planning principles for next generation Transport services.
- Excellent understanding of SDH and DWDM technologies.
- Excellent understanding of Ethernet.
- Technology requirements for this position include: Huawei (6800, 3800 and/or 1800), Infinera, Nokia 1830, Ciena 6500 & 6110, Ciena 5400 series, ADVA R7 , Cisco 15454, Fuji FLM2400 & FW 4100
- Experience in handling NMS/EMS systems like Ciena One Control, Infinera DNA, Fuji Netsmart,
- Strong data/economic analysis skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in an engineering role that included a substantial business/financial focus (preferred)
