Slab caster Operations - Mould Operator

RESPONSIBILITY & AUTHORITY

Tundish preparation

• To place the tundish on tundish car.
• To check any loose mortar/spray mass near top of the SEN and inside the tundish, if any, clean.
• Checking Monoblock Stopper.
• Checking SEN positioning.
• To fix the MTSP for TCD tundish
• To fix all the argon line for TCD machine
• To ensure smooth operation of TCD machine
• To assist Shift Engineer in centering the tundish.
• To pack the tundish with cerawool to avoid heat loss.

Machine preparation

Prior cast

• To set the mould for proper section to be cast.
• While inserting dummy bar check for stoppage below foot roller.
• To take the dummy bar inside the mould for packing.
• Dummy bar packing.

During Cast

• To ensure all operations is carried out as per the work instruction

After cast

• To check the mould for any abnormality and clean the mould.
• To check the canopy for any slag debris and clean the canopy.
• To check the track (rails) for free tundish car movement.
• To remove skull, jam etc. if any, at casting floor.
• To deskull the emergency bucket.
• To remove the used tundish with crane and clean the resting pads on tundish car.
• To remove used shrouds and skull, jams if any, on tundish car.
• To clean and check the machine for skull, jam and debris after breakout/breakdown.
• To assist the shift engineer for machine checking and spray testing during downtime.

material arrangement at casting floor

• To prepare/arrange material for start and end casting, e.g. keeping lancing pipes ready, paper cord, chillers, oil, sand and flags for capping, water shower for cooling etc.
• To arrange shroud boxes, casting powder boxes, tundish flux etc. at proper places.
• To place extra shroud, tundish flux at tundish car top platform for teeming operation.

Mould

• Mould operation and allied jobs concerned with mould operation, as per work procedure/work instruction.
• Mould removal and fixing during mould change.

Ladle operation

• To fix and remove slide gate and cooling hose at ladle loading position.
• Ladle teeming and allied jobs concerned teeming operation, as per work procedure/work instruction.
• Temperature measurement and sample taking.

general

• To train new operators.
• To dispose shop generated scrap in proper container.
• To assure that metal and non-metallic scrap is not mixed.
• To maintain work ethics, discipline and decorum of the working place.
• Proper communication with colleagues for proper and safe working.

House keeping

• To keep the entire casting floors clean (including ladle loading platform and emergency ladle platform).
• To keep the cooling chambers clean from mill scale, skull and jam etc.

Safety

• Must know firefighting and handle whenever there is any disastrous situation.
• Safe working of individual and co-worker.
• Safe operation of equipments and machineries.
• To ensure safety apparatus as per the PPE matrix in.
