JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for participating in the safe operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plants and coordinate in providing safety training to the staff and workmen in the facility. The Safety officer Measures, organize training, inspect premises and work activities, investigate incidents, and prepare reports on occurrences.
MAJOR DUTIES
all relevant legislation and statutory requirements, including rules and regulations (as amended from time to time)
2. Develop and administer plant safety training program to ensure acquisition of desired skills
3. Trains new personnel; coordinate and conduct training for technical and non-technical staff
on the safe operation and maintenance of treatment plants
4. Identify and recommend training and safety requirements for plant personnel
5. Develop, implement and maintain operating standards, safety and health programs and
plans
6. Coordinate and conduct safety inspections; investigate near miss situations
7. Participate in and/or review the various Formal Safety Assessments like risk assessment
and enforce preventive measures
8. Maintains accurate records and prepares reports as required
9. Investigate incidents to determine causes and prepare reports
10. Gathers, organizes, examines, and evaluates data and makes appropriate response
11. Performs other related duties as assigned by the plant manager
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION
1. Knowledge of the operating procedures of sewage treatment plant
2. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for safe operations
4. Knowledge of chemical application in the sewage treatment process
5. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
7. Knowledge of safety procedures related to sewage treatment plant operations
8. Knowledge of LOTO, Isolation and de-isolation procedures, gas testing procedures, chemical handling procedures, etc.
9. Knowledge of First aid and Emergency Procedures
10. Good communication skills with ability to present health and safety topics
11. Skill in planning and meeting deadlines
12. Skill in compiling and analyzing data
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The safety officer spot-checks ongoing work for compliance with legislation and promoting a culture of health and safety in the workplace. He / She will also ensure adherence to internal and external rules/regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Degree or Diploma in Engineering, from a recognized University
Certified from NEBOSH / IOSH etc.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic education
Sufficient experience (minimum 5 years) in wastewater treatment plants to thoroughly understand the work involved to be able to answer questions and resolve problems
