Job Description

Role : Director - Principal Engineer - Diversity Only.


Key Accountabilities :

- Regional lead for digital platform engineering capabilities of Customer Identity & Access Management, and Permissions platforms.

- Role model technical leadership in designing, developing and implementing new centralised secure, scalable and efficient platforms demonstrating strong platform engineering principles

- Ensure the highest levels of platform security and compliance.

- Optimise platform performance and efficiency.

- Manage the team's financial accountability and budgetary requirements.

- Lead, grow and develop a team of engineers to design, build and maintain the platform, following agile software development principles.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership :

- Collaborate with peers across global locations to nurture "one team" culture.

- Collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the bank to achieve common understanding of the capabilities of the CIAM and Permissions platform.

- Co-create with partners across the bank to innovate digital journeys using the platform's capabilities, demonstrating inner source culture.

- Role model hands-on engineering-led leadership to both the team and the wider tech community.

- Empower every team member to take ownership for collaborating with diverse partners including other engineering teams, business stakeholders, security, compliance, external partners to achieve positive outcomes for customers and colleagues.

Decision-making and Problem Solving :

- Make both strategic and technical decisions to advance the CIAM and Permissions platforms and scale its impact, value, and capabilities.

- Utilise data-driven, analytical approaches to understand new opportunities and working with stakeholders to incorporate both quantitative and qualitative input to make judgements and decisions.

- Lead and enable high quality design and architecture of the CIAM and Permissions platforms to consider multiple complex factors including security, performance, compliance, future growth, and cost efficiency.

- Demonstrate ability to make well-considered trade-offs balancing security needs with user experience.

Risk and Control Objective :

- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work you do

Person Specification :

- Ability to build, lead and motivate a high performing platform engineering team, including mentoring, fostering collaboration and delegating effectively.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with people from both technical and non-technical backgrounds and with people at all levels of the organisation from early careers to C-suite.

- Deep understanding and interest in IAM, authorisation, security standards, technologies, capabilities and platform engineering principles.

- Deep understanding and interest in cloud and containerisation technologies.

- A passion for modernisation for architecture and ways of working.

- A passion for growing security expertise across own team and wider engineering community.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications :

- Full stack development (front-end, Java, APIs & microservices, PostgreSQL, data structures, workflow)

- Site Reliability Engineering (automation, observability, incident management, resilience, disaster recovery, high availability, documentation)

- IAM engineering (authentication, authorisation, single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, user lifecycle management, OAuth2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, Ping Identity/ForgeRock)

- Policy Management (Open Policy Agent, OPA Gateways, OPA debugging and testing, Rego policy language, policy as code, Styra Das, Permit.io)
