Position: Lab Assistants (Phy/Chem/Biology)

Reporting to: Principal

Job Overview:

• Assist in the management and operation of the school science labs, ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment for students.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Preparation and Maintenance:
• Prepare materials and equipment needed for science experiments and practical lessons.
• Ensure all lab equipment is clean, functional, and properly stored after use.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on lab equipment.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and chemical hygiene plans.
• Maintain up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Conduct regular safety audits and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
• Inventory Management:
• Keep track of lab supplies and equipment.
• Order and restock items as necessary, ensuring the availability of necessary materials for classes and experiments.
• Manage chemical storage according to safety standards.
• Support in Teaching:
• Assist teachers during lab sessions by setting up equipment and explaining the use of laboratory tools to students.
• Demonstrate proper laboratory techniques.
• Help students with the setup and execution of their experiments.
• Documentation and Records:
• Maintain accurate records of lab activities, equipment logs, and inventory lists.
• Document student lab performance and incidents to ensure compliance with school policies.
• Cleaning and Waste Disposal:
• Ensure the lab is clean and organized at all times.
• Properly dispose of waste materials and chemicals according to environmental safety regulations.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
• Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in an educational environment.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and standards.

Skills:

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with students and staff.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety.
