Fire System Engineer

Role & responsibilities

An FM-200 design engineer is responsible for designing and ensuring the proper installation of FM-200 fire suppression systems. Here are the key responsibilities:

1. System Design and Layout: Create detailed designs and layout plans for FM-200 clean agent fire suppression systems, including the placement of cylinders, piping, and nozzles to ensure effective coverage.
2. Hydraulic Calculations: Perform hydraulic calculations to determine the correct quantity of FM-200 agent required, proper pipe sizing, and ensure that the system meets performance criteria as per NFPA 2001.
3. Compliance with Standards: Ensure the design complies with relevant standards, such as NFPA 2001, UL, FM, and local fire codes, ensuring proper safety and regulatory adherence.
4. Equipment Selection: Specify the correct FM-200 cylinders, nozzles, control panels, detection systems, and other components based on project requirements and performance criteria.
5. Integration with Fire Detection Systems: Design the integration of the FM-200 system with fire detection and alarm systems to ensure timely activation during fire events.
6. Site Survey and Evaluation: Conduct site surveys to assess the protected area, identify potential fire hazards, and evaluate structural considerations such as room integrity and venting requirements.
7. Pressure Venting Design: Design and incorporate pressure venting systems where necessary to manage pressure build-up during the discharge of FM-200.
8. Coordination with Other Trades: Collaborate with architects, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) engineers, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of the FM-200 system into the buildings infrastructure.
9. Documentation and Submittals: Prepare technical drawings, system specifications, and submittal packages for client approval, ensuring all design elements are clearly communicated and documented.
10. System Commissioning and Testing: Oversee the installation and commissioning process, including conducting room integrity (door fan) testing and system discharge testing, ensuring the system operates as designed.
11. Troubleshooting and Maintenance Plans: Provide troubleshooting guidance during installation and develop maintenance plans for long-term system reliability, including periodic inspections and testing schedules.
12. Project Management: Manage the project timeline, resources, and budget for the FM-200 system design, installation, and commissioning, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
13. Client and Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to provide technical guidance, respond to queries, and ensure that the system meets the clients needs and safety objectives.

Preferred candidate profile

Bachelors degree in Engineering (B.E.) or Technology (B.Tech).
