Cath Lab Technician

Job Description:

1. Assisting in Procedures:

• Assist cardiologists and other medical professionals during diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as angiograms, angioplasty, stent placements, and catheter insertions.
• Prepare and set up equipment, including catheters, balloons, stents, and other medical devices.
• Handle and maintain radiographic equipment for imaging purposes, ensuring that images are of high quality for diagnosis.

2. Patient Care:

• Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and addressing concerns.
• Ensure patient safety and comfort during procedures.
• Monitor patient vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.

3. Equipment Maintenance:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper functioning of all equipment in the cath lab.
• Ensure that all tools, instruments, and materials are sterilized and in good condition.
• Assist with maintaining inventory of supplies and ordering new materials as needed.

4. Radiology Assistance:

• Operate fluoroscopy and other imaging equipment during procedures to help guide the physician.
• Ensure proper radiation safety measures are followed, including wearing appropriate protective gear and minimizing radiation exposure to patients and staff.

5. Documentation:

• Record patient information, procedure details, and other relevant data in medical records.
• Document equipment usage, medications administered, and patient reactions during the procedure.

6. Collaboration:

• Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth operation in the cath lab.
• Provide assistance in preparing the procedure room, cleaning up after procedures, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

7. Post-Procedure Care:

• Assist with patient transport and provide post-procedure monitoring.
• Help with post-procedure instructions for patients and their families, if necessary.
