Cost Accountant

Role & responsibilities

• Assist in gathering and compiling cost-related data from various departments such as production, purchasing, and inventory.
• Support in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of material, labour, and overhead costs
• Help in analyzing costs for specific projects or products, identifying variances between actual and budgeted costs.
• Assist in preparing basic reports on cost trends and potential cost-saving opportunities.
• Knowledge to prepare the Cost sheet
• Knowledge in Cost components & Overheads
• Identifying and listing all costs associated with production or a specific project.
• Track and monitor inventory movements and assist in the valuation of inventory at month-end.
• Participate in periodic inventory counts and assist in reconciling discrepancies.
• Support the senior accounting team in the preparation of cost estimates for budgets and forecasts.
• Help monitor actual expenses compared to the budget and highlight variances.
• Assist in preparing financial statements and internal reports related to cost accounting.
• Provide data for monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure all cost-related data is properly documented and stored.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies related to cost accounting.
• Assist in identifying inefficiencies in current cost tracking processes and suggest improvements.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or CMA Inter).
• Experience: 5-8 year of accounting experience; internships or co-op experience in accounting is a plus.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with accounting software and advanced MS Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data and provide basic cost-related insights.
• Communication: Good communication skills to work effectively within teams and with other departments.
• Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
