Job Description
- Environment Creation: Design, model, and texture detailed environments for film, TV, or video games that match the projects vision and artistic direction.
- Realistic Simulations: Work closely with the VFX team to create natural phenomena like weather systems, water simulations, foliage, and destruction effects.
- Asset Integration: Collaborate with other departments to integrate assets into the environment, ensuring compatibility with lighting, rendering, and animation.
- Shader Development: Develop materials and shaders for environments that mimic natural properties, such as light interaction, material wear, and environmental factors.
- Optimization: Optimize environmental assets for both high-quality visual output and real-time performance.
- Collaboration: Work with concept artists, designers, and the VFX supervisor to interpret creative direction and develop the artistic vision for the environments.
- Problem-Solving: Address feedback and technical challenges to ensure environments are production-ready and deliverable within project timelines.
Required Skills Experience:
- Software Proficiency: Expertise in industry-standard software (eg, Maya, Houdini, Unreal Engine, 3ds Max, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Designer/Painter).
- Rendering Knowledge: Experience with rendering engines (eg, V-Ray, Arnold, Redshift) to achieve photorealistic environments.
- Texturing Shading: Strong knowledge of procedural and hand-painted texturing techniques.
- Understanding of Lighting: Familiarity with lighting setups and how they impact the appearance of environments.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the VFX pipeline.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing high-quality VFX environments, including breakdowns of the work.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience as a VFX Environmental Artist in film, television, or video games.
- Collaborative Skills: Strong communication and teamwork abilities to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Technical Understanding: Familiarity with scripting and procedural environment generation (eg, using Houdini).
