Job Description: QA/QC Engineer - Structural Steel Fabrication Workshop
Role Summary
The QA/QC Engineer in a structural steel fabrication workshop is responsible for ensuring that all fabricated steel components meet quality standards, codes, and client requirements. The role involves establishing quality control procedures, conducting inspections, maintaining documentation, and coordinating with various teams to resolve quality issues.

Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance & Control
Develop and implement QA/QC plans, procedures, and inspection protocols for structural steel fabrication.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards, such as ASTM, ASME, ISO, and client-specific requirements.
Monitor all fabrication processes to ensure adherence to quality standards.
2. Inspection & Testing
Conduct visual, dimensional, and weld inspections during fabrication stages.
Supervise non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, including ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and radiographic testing (RT).
Review test results and prepare quality inspection reports.
3. Documentation
Maintain quality records, including inspection and test plans (ITPs), material test certificates (MTCs), and deviation reports.
Prepare and submit project quality documentation to clients.
Ensure traceability of materials and fabricated components.
4. Coordination & Communication
Collaborate with production, design, and project teams to address quality issues and provide technical guidance.
Liaise with clients, third-party inspectors, and certifying bodies for quality approvals.
Participate in internal and external audits.
5. Continuous Improvement
Identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Conduct training sessions for workshop staff on quality standards and inspection techniques.
Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the workshop.
Requirements
1. Educational Background
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
2. Experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication QA/QC roles.
3. Skills
Strong knowledge of welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) and welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1).
Proficient in NDT methods and certified in one or more (e.g., Level II in UT, MT).
Familiarity with CAD drawings and their interpretation.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
4. Certifications
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification is preferred.
ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification is an advantage.
5. Other Requirements
Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Reporting
