Role Summary

WSP is seeking a highly skilled individual for this role to join the Structures team on major multi-disciplinary project delivery, from concept stage through to detailed design. The role will focus on collaborating with a dynamic team to ensure the successful delivery of the projects. The Engineer will work closely under the guidance and supervision of a Senior or Principal Engineer, contributing to the planning, execution, and completion of projects.

Responsibilities

Project and Technical Delivery

• Adhere to the document control and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring all drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued, and filed / archived in an appropriate manner.
• Assist in compiling design specification within set deadlines ensuring compliance with the project brief through calculations and cross referencing the manufacturer s literature; ensuring all relevant standards and guides are referenced in the design specification.
• Organise and carry out design to WSP in India and Building Regulations standard ensuring CDM, QA and technical review and sign off by project leader, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues.
• Organise and perform technical calculations to industry standards alongside team members; supervise the work of team members to ensure the delegated work is completed on time and meet quality standards and report any issues, risks or client changes to the project leader.
• Prepare elemental work for project budget costing as delegated by the senior team member, within agreed deadlines and standards.
• Address queries from the project team and other disciplines on day-to-day basis, ensuring that relevant information is available on time to achieve key project milestones.
• Contribute to and question technical and construction issues, encourage and help the trainees to better understand the design process
• Determine appropriate software for Computer Aided Design, construct models and undertake analysis and manual checks

Key Competencies / Skills

Mandatory Skills

• The applicant should have a total experience of 5+ years and be actively working to the UK Chartered Engineer status or equivalent, possess a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and possess membership to an accredited engineering body
• The applicant should have successfully designed and assisted in delivering overground and underground metro station structures or any building structure projects
• The applicant should have basic understanding on structural design philosophy and ability to interpret structural behaviour for various loading conditions
• Able to perform manual calculations and produce optimised structural scheme designs
• Good understanding/working knowledge preferably on Eurocodes of practices and UK Construction methodologies or any industry accepted codes of practice
• Well experienced in supporting role to deliver and handling of Reinforced Concrete structures and good understanding of Steel Structures through various project stages from conception to completion
• Good understanding of sustainability concepts
• Good presentation skills are also required
• Must be fully conversant with technical structural software, such as ETABS, SAFE, RAM Concept, Tekla Structural Designer etc.
• A sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project is essential
• Must be fluent in English with an excellent understanding of technical terminology
• Demonstrate an awareness of project risk issues, flagging potential problems to team leader
• Flag resourcing concerns to team leader and assist colleagues to ensure team timelines are met
