Job Role:
Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. This includes monitoring vital signs, assessing patient conditions, administering medications, and implementing treatment plans.
Assessment and Monitoring: Continuously assess and monitor patients' physical and mental status, observing any changes or deterioration. Regularly record and interpret vital signs, lab results, and diagnostic tests to identify potential complications or improvements in the patient's condition.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in rounds, contribute to patient care discussions, and provide valuable insights and observations to the team.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond swiftly and efficiently to emergencies or critical situations within the ICU. Initiate appropriate interventions, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, and administering emergency medications.
Medication Administration: Administer medications and treatments according to prescribed orders, ensuring accuracy, proper dosages, and appropriate routes of administration. Monitor patients for potential side effects and adverse reactions.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting patient assessments, interventions, medications administered, and any changes in the patient's condition. Ensure compliance with documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
Patient and Family Support: Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families, addressing their concerns, explaining procedures, and involving them in the care plan. Offer reassurance and information to help alleviate anxiety during challenging times.
Equipment and Technology: Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment and technology used in the ICU, such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and dialysis machines. Stay updated on the latest advancements and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
Infection Control: Strictly adhere to infection control protocols, including hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and isolation precautions. Prevent the spread of infections within the ICU by following established guidelines.
Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in critical care nursing by participating in continuing education programs, workshops, and professional organizations. Maintain a high level of competence and enhance skills to provide optimal patient care.
