Job Description
- Database Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimising cloud-based database systems to ensure efficient and reliable data storage and retrieval. This individual will work closely with application,
- Data Engineering, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders to design, implement, and manage scalable and secure database solutions in the cloud environment. Some key responsibilities include
- Database Design and Implementation : Design, develop, and implement cloud-based database solutions in collaboration with development teams. Create database schemas, tables, and indexes to support efficient data storage and retrieval.
- Cloud Database Administration : Manage, monitor, and optimise cloud database instances to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity. Configure and maintain database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies
- Database Automation and Scripting : Develop and maintain database automation scripts, data pipelines , workflows, and configurations using scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible). Implement DevOps practices for database deployment and management.
- Data Security and Compliance : Implement and maintain appropriate security measures and access controls to protect sensitive data stored in the cloud database. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry best practices.
- Collaboration and Communication : Collaborate with application teams, Data Engineering, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders to understand database requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure effective integration with other systems. Communicate database-related updates, issues, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Setup / Configure Database Instances in the Cloud platforms like AWS , Google Cloud or Azure, Create Databases, Allocate resources such as Storage / Compute / Memory. Implement strategies for HA, Failover DR and Replication. Perform deployments and run periodic backups. Establish access and authentication controls to secure data, setup encryption, masking as required.
- Resolve platform related issues. Coordinate with teams for product related issues, patches, bug fixes and perform upgrades. Fine-tune database systems to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability - including monitoring and optimising database query performance, indexing etc.
- Assist in migrating on-premises databases to the cloud and integrating data from various sources into cloud-based systems.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining robust data pipelines that facilitate the efficient flow of data across systems. They work with large and complex datasets
- Build and manage ETL data solutions on platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Ensure that data storage and processing are scalable, secure, and cost-effective, often working with services like data lakes and warehouses in the cloud.
Qualifying skills
- 2-3 years of Database Administration experience.
- 2-3 years of experience with any of the database management systems (Microsoft SQL Server, Mysql, Aurora, PostgreSQL etc.).
- 1-3 years experience with NoSQL database systems (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Bigquery , Redshift, Neo4j etc.).
Desirable :
- 2 to 3 years of experience with cloud-based database technologies (Amazon AWS S3, RDS, Redshift, Aurora etc.). Knowledge of AWS Mysql Aurora or Google Bigquery is a plus
- Experience with DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, Liquibase, deployment to AWS).

- Dynamic, self-driven professional with a strong sense of ownership
- Willing to learn and adapt to emerging technologies.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, Strong visual presentation skills.
- Flexibility to communicate effectively with various levels of management.
