Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated climate finance and carbon market expert to join our team. The role involves developing and implementing strategies related to climate finance mechanisms and carbon markets to support sustainable development and emissions reduction goals. The candidate should have a strong understanding of financial markets, environmental policies, and carbon pricing mechanisms, focussing on climate-smart agriculture (CSA).
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis on global and regional carbon markets, including trends, pricing, and regulatory framework.
- Develop strategies for leveraging climate finance mechanisms, such as carbon credits, green bonds, and other sustainable investment vehicles.
- Analyse carbon market mechanisms and opportunities (e.g., carbon credits, offsets, emission reductions), relevant to the agriculture sector.
- Provide technical notes to team members and other stakeholders on climate finance mechanisms and financial instruments.
- Identify opportunities to secure climate finance resources from diverse sources such as national and international climate funds, development banks, bilateral agencies, and private sector investors.
- Involve in capacity-building activities, workshops, and training programmes to enhance understanding and knowledge among stakeholders and beneficiaries about climate finance mechanisms and carbon market opportunities.
- Prepare reports and presentations on climate finance initiatives, project outcomes, and market development for stakeholders.
Qualifications
Masters degree in Economics, Finance, or Environmental Economics.
Experience
- 3 to 6 years of work experience in climate finance, carbon markets, or related fields, preferably within the agriculture or land management sectors.
- Proven track record of working on projects related to emissions trading, carbon credits, or sustainable investment.
- Familiarity with carbon market mechanisms, including carbon credits, offsets, and emission reductions.
Skill Set
- Knowledge of international climate finance mechanisms, instruments, and institutions.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and carbon accounting standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, research, and strategic thinking skills.
