Potential editors must have at least five (5) years of experience on digital news properties and/or content curation teams
Candidates whove worked in print publications or publishing houses may also apply
Either way, they must display (significantly) above-average language skills, be proficient at both copyand developmental editing, be comfortable working on a variety of topics (ranging from hard news to lifestyle, travel, and entertainment), have a well-developed nose for news and, crucially, be research-savvy
The editor is required to edit copies as well as be responsible for fact-checking
Some knowledge of social media platforms and how they work will be a plus
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out copyand line-editing of stories
Critically evaluate text in each piece of content, moving beyond mechanical editing and fact-checking to ensure
it matches, as closely as possible, the agreed-upon brief
it contains no information that could reasonably be construed as misleading the reader or providing him/her with misinformation
it is a balanced piece of content particularly important for News and Finance-related stories
it contains as much pertinent and/or interesting information as is required
Help writers find the best possible images for the stories from all available resources, including Instagram and Twitter
Hone what should already be a well-developed nose for news
Editors are required to sign off on the content theyve checked, meaning they assume responsibility for the accuracy of facts and information and the appropriateness of images used
Provide content ideas at weekly team meetings, and be prepared to produce content if necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
A degree in Journalism
A minimum of five years of experience subbing copies
A keen interest in various verticals, including fashion and entertainment and
An interest in research and/or the willingness to learn new subjects in the shortest time possible
A basic awareness of (credible) news sources online
