Job Description

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

a) Plan and conduct investigations of patients and/or tissue samples assigned to you as per your schedule of posting.

b.) A. For samples collected outside the center and received for testing

a.) Go through the patient registration form and check the sample(s) received for appropriateness quantity and quality. In case any deficiencies are noted please inform the doctor on duty as well as the front office.

b.) Plan the tests, and if necessary take instructions from the doctor on duty before starting the tests.

B. For Patients coming to the center

a.) Go through the patient registration form and check the sample(s) taken/ received for appropriate quantity and quality.

b.) Educate the patient about the procedure what to expect during the procedure and get the consent forms filled by the patient whenever necessary e.g. for biopsies and FNAC etc.

c.) Recognize the clinical condition of the patient and bring to the notice of the doctor on duty if any patient requires out of turn examination on grounds of his/her health condition.

d.) Ensure that the sample is collected with proper precautions for sterility. Blood samples should be taken with the patient sitting comfortably or lying down.

DO NOT TAKE A BLOOD SAMPLE WHILE THE PATIENT IS STANDING

e.) Return the patient to the front office with clear instructions for any further action required as well as the likely time and date by which the report will be ready.

f.) Be aware of and take appropriate measures in case of a medical emergency and anticipate possible complications and take steps to prevent them. Be aware of and undertake appropriate measures in the event that a patient requires resuscitation.

c.) Ensure that all required tests as per the prescription are entered in LIS and inform Patient Care Services in case of any discrepancy.

d.) Perform the tests as entered in LIS and prepare a report.

e.) Ensure that the time taken for a test/procedure is well within the laid down protocols for each test/procedure.

f.) Submit the report to the person deputed for checking the report who must also sign the report. The checked report should be submitted to the concerned doctor. The final report should then be submitted to the front office.

g.) Return all papers and documents of earlier investigations to the patients in case these were obtained from the patient.

h.) It is expected that all reports for samples taken on a particular day will be completed by the technician before leaving the center for the day except when the test procedure requires otherwise. In case of any difficulty the same should be clearly mentioned in the daily report register and communicated to the doctor on duty as well as the front office.

i.) Maintain records of all patients and investigations undertaken.

j.) Ensure that the daily report register is completed daily before leaving the center. The daily report should include a list of tests completed. In addition mention should be made of any problems encountered and how these were addressed.

k.) A report of any patient related complications encountered must be entered in a separate register provided for the purpose. Please also complete the complication Reporting form and submit it to the Center Administrator on the same day.

l.) Follow the prescribed procedure under the NACO Act at all times.

m.) You are required to:

a.) Check all equipment that is under your charge on arrival in the morning and again before leaving the center and maintain the daily log book for the same. Follow prescribed quality control protocols and calibration schedules; and maintain a record of these.

b.) Record any breakdown of equipment in the equipment log book and steps taken for quick resolution of the problem. If so required, maintain and establish contact with the concerned service engineer to ensure speedy repairs.

c.) Perform preventive maintenance of the equipment and keep up-to-date contact information details of all concerned engineers.

d.) On conclusion of your shift, hand over the equipment to the person relieving you and communicate to him/her any observation regarding the functioning of the equipment that you may have noticed during your shift. Also inform him/her about the action taken in this regard.

e.) For shifts concluding at closure time follow the proper procedure for shutting down the equipment.

f.) Ensure optimum utilization of all consumables and minimize wastage.

g.) All technicians are required to wear the prescribed uniform and white coats, personal identification badge at all times while at work.

h.) As a statutory obligation you are required to dispose of biomedical waste in specifically coloured bins and bags bearing biohazard symbol. Special care should be taken to ensure segregation of wastes that it does not gets mixed up with non-infectious waste.

n.) Maintain consumption records daily. Requests for replenishments must be made well in advance for prompt and timely replacements. The purchase department and Center Administrator should be informed well in time if any consumable stores, including reagents are approaching expiry date so that these can be replaced.

o.) Treat all patients with due care and compassion

  • Remain sensitive to the needs of all patients at all times. Be patient and polite towards patients as well as other staff working in the center at all times.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards in dealing with patients.
  • Remain conscious at all times that patient information is confidential and must not be shared with any person other than the doctors reporting on the case.
  • Professionalism is recognized by a combination of politeness, compassion and efficiency while at the same time remaining alert to the clinical needs of a patient and or procedure.

p.) To follow, uphold and actively promote the commitment of Atulaya Healthcare to quality, professionalism and compassion in delivering professional care to patients availing our services.

q.) General Duties include:

a. Maintain punctuality and follow respective duty rosters.

b. Judiciously use resources and minimize waste without compromising patient safety.

c. Maintain cleanliness at the work place at all times.

d. Be present at the work station and maintain discipline at all times. A serious view is likely in the event of any act of indiscipline irrespective of the provocation if any.

e. Report to your HOD and the Center Administrator any event, happening or occurrence which could help in improving the working practices/standards at the center. Also report to your HOD and the Center Administrator any event, happening or occurrence which could adversely affect working or reputation of the center.
