Job Description
- A Gastroenterology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting gastroenterologists and healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal disorders
- They are responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment, assisting with procedures, and providing patient care in a clinical or hospital setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Preparation:Greet and prepare patients for gastrointestinal procedures
- Explain the procedure to patients and address their questions and concerns
- Ensure patients are comfortable and provide emotional support
- Equipment Maintenance:Set up and sterilize endoscopy and other specialized equipment before procedures
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to ensure it functions correctly
- Keep an inventory of supplies and request restocking as needed
- Assistance During Procedures:Assist the gastroenterologist during endoscopic procedures, such as colonoscopies and gastroscopies
- Pass instruments and supplies to the physician as required
- Monitor patient vital signs and report any abnormalities
- Documentation:Accurately record patient information, procedure details, and findings in medical records
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Patient Education:Provide post-procedure care instructions to patients and answer their questions
- Offer guidance on diet and lifestyle changes as recommended by the gastroenterologist
- Infection Control:Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment in procedure rooms
- Team Collaboration:Collaborate with gastroenterologists, nurses, and other healthcare team members
- Communicate effectively to ensure seamless patient care
