Design Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented 2D and 3D Designer with expertise in SolidWorks and AutoCAD to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in creating technical drawings, 3D modeling, and designing tooling, machinery, and manufacturing components. This position involves drafting, creating 3D models, and supporting production with accurate, detailed designs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. 2D and 3D Design & Drafting:
   
• Create accurate and detailed 2D technical drawings and 3D models of tools, components, and assemblies using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Develop and modify designs for manufacturing, ensuring specifications are met and the designs are manufacturable.
• Prepare CAD drawings for CNC machining and other manufacturing processes, providing clear instructions for the production team.
• Collaborate with engineers and manufacturing teams to iterate designs and address any production challenges.
2. Tooling and Machining Design:
   
• Design custom tooling, fixtures, and jigs to optimize machining and manufacturing processes.
• Use SolidWorks to design tool components and assemblies, ensuring functionality and accuracy in production.
• Work closely with the production team to ensure that designs align with CNC machine capabilities and other production requirements.
3. 3D Modeling and Simulation:
   
• Create 3D models and perform simulations to validate design functionality before production.
• Utilize SolidWorks for 3D modeling of complex parts and assemblies, ensuring that designs meet performance, fit, and quality standards.
• Perform tolerance analysis and ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing processes.
4. Drafting and Documentation:
   
• Generate detailed technical documentation, including assembly instructions, part lists (BOM), and material specifications.
• Update and revise designs based on feedback from production and engineering teams.
• Ensure drawings are up-to-date and accurately reflect any design changes.
5. Collaboration and Support:
   
• Provide design support to manufacturing and production teams, assisting with troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth transitions from design to production.
• Assist in process improvements and support continuous improvement efforts in the design and manufacturing process.
6. Tool Room and Production Support:
   
• Ensure that design outputs are aligned with production needs and assist with tool room planning and management.
• Work with CNC operators and machinists to ensure that designed tooling and parts are correctly implemented.

Key Requirements:

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 2D and 3D design and drafting.
• Strong understanding of machining processes and manufacturing techniques.
• Experience with CNC programming or working closely with CNC operators is a plus.
• Ability to design custom tooling and fixtures to meet specific production requirements.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Experience in a manufacturing or tool room environment is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills to work collaboratively with production, engineering, and design teams.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
