As a Die Maker, your primary responsibility is to construct, repair, and maintain dies used in the manufacturing of various products. You will work with precision tools and machinery to fabricate dies according to engineering specifications and ensure their proper functioning in the production process.
Key Responsibilities:
Die Construction:Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand die design requirements.Select appropriate materials, such as steel or other alloys, for die construction.Use precision measuring instruments, such as calipers and micrometers, to take accurate measurements for die fabrication.Set up and operate machine tools, including milling machines, lathes, grinders, and CNC equipment, to shape, cut, and finish die components.Use hand tools and specialized equipment to assemble die components, ensuring proper alignment and fit.
Die Repair and Maintenance:Inspect and troubleshoot damaged or malfunctioning dies to identify issues and determine necessary repairs.Disassemble, clean, and repair die components, such as punches, inserts, and cutting edges.Use welding, grinding, and machining techniques to repair or modify die components as needed.Conduct tests and adjustments to ensure the proper functioning and performance of repaired dies.Perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubrication and cleaning, to prolong die lifespan and optimize performance.
Quality Assurance:Conduct thorough inspections and measurements to verify the accuracy and precision of die components.Use precision measuring tools and gauges to check critical dimensions and tolerances.Ensure that dies meet quality standards and specifications before being used in production.
Collaborate with quality control teams and provide input on die-related issues and improvements.Documentation and Record-Keeping:Maintain detailed records of die specifications, repairs, and modifications.Document and update standard operating procedures for die construction and repair processes.Keep track of inventory and order necessary materials and supplies for die fabrication and repair.
Collaboration and Communication:Coordinate with engineers, designers, and production teams to understand die requirements and resolve any issues.Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to provide progress updates and discuss die-related matters.Safety and Compliance:Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when operating machinery and tools.Follow all applicable regulations and safety standards to maintain a safe working environment.Comply with company policies and procedures related to die making and maintenance.
