Tableau Server Administrator

Role & responsibilities

Server Management:

• Install, configure, and maintain Tableau Server across different environments (development, test, production).
• Plan and execute server upgrades, patches, and hotfixes.
• Monitor server performance, capacity, and availability.

User and Content Administration:

• Manage users, groups, and roles, ensuring proper access control.
• Assign permissions for workbooks, dashboards, and data sources.
• Troubleshoot issues related to user access and content publishing.

Performance Optimization:

• Monitor and analyze server logs to ensure optimal performance.
• Identify and resolve server bottlenecks, latency, or downtime issues.
• Implement best practices for server and workbook performance.

Security and Compliance:

• Implement security protocols to safeguard server and data.
• Enforce organizational compliance policies for data usage and privacy.
• Conduct regular audits and apply necessary configurations to meet standards.

Collaboration and Support:

• Act as a liaison between IT, data teams, and Tableau users.
• Provide technical support for server-related issues and coordinate with Tableau support if needed.
• Assist with integrating Tableau Server with other systems (Active Directory, Single Sign-On, etc.).

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

• Perform regular backups of Tableau Server and its content.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for Tableau Server.

Automation and Scripting:

• Use Tableaus REST API, Tabcmd, or scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate administrative tasks.
• Set up scheduled tasks for data extracts and server maintenance.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in Tableau Server administration or similar roles.
• Proficiency with Tableau Server installation, configuration, and management.
• Strong understanding of networking, security protocols, and system administration.
• Familiarity with Active Directory, SAML, Kerberos, and other authentication protocols.
• Knowledge of database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.) and data connections.
