Compression ratio is calculated by dividing the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom by the volume when it's at the top. Inlet and exhaust valve sizes differ due to different requirements.

Compression ratio = volume at bottom of piston stroke / volume at top of piston stroke
Inlet valve is larger to allow more air-fuel mixture into the cylinder
Exhaust valve is smaller to create higher velocity and better scavenging of exhaust gases
Valve sizes are determined by engine design and performance requirements
