It works by creating a loop-free logical topology by blocking redundant paths.
STP elects a root bridge, which becomes the central point of the network.
The root bridge is the bridge with the lowest bridge ID.
STP uses Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDUs) to exchange information between bridges.
BPDUs contain information about the bridge ID, root bridge, and path cost.
Each bridge calculates the shortest path to the root bridge based on the path cost.
STP blocks ports on bridges to prevent loops and ensures a single active path to the root bridge.
If a link or bridge fails, STP recalculates the topology to find an alternate path.
Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) is an enhanced version of STP that provides faster convergence.
