Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is a Layer 2 network protocol used to prevent looping within a network topology .The Root bridge (switch) is a special bridge at the top of the Spanning Tree (inverted tree). The branches (Ethernet connections) are then branched out from the root switch, connecting to other switches in the Local Area Network (LAN).

STP is spanning-tree protocols. To avoid the loops in a layer 3 network. All the port of root bridge is called designated. and All the port which are going to root bridge is called Root-Path.
