Each layer communicates with the layer above and below it.
Example: When you visit a website, the Application layer sends a request to the Transport layer, which breaks it into smaller packets and sends it to the Network layer, which adds routing information and sends it to the Data Link layer, which adds physical addressing information and sends it to the Physical layer, which transmits it over the network.
