VLOOKUP stands for 'vertical lookup' and is used to search for a value in the first column of a table and return a value in the same row from a specified column.
Syntax: =VLOOKUP(lookup_value, table_array, col_index_num, [range_lookup])
Example: =VLOOKUP(A2, B2:D10, 3, FALSE) will search for the value in cell A2 in the first column of the range B2:D10 and return the value in the third column of the same row.
Join is used to combine rows from two or more tables based on a related column between them.
Types of joins include INNER JOIN (returns rows when there is a match in both tables), LEFT JOIN (returns all rows from the left table and the matched rows from the right table), RIGHT JOIN (returns all rows from the right table and the matched rows from the left table), and FULL JOIN (returns rows when there is a match in one of the tables).
