DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It is a network protocol that enables devices to obtain IP addresses automatically.

DHCP assigns IP addresses to devices on a network
It also provides other network configuration information like subnet mask and default gateway
DHCP uses a client-server model
The DHCP server manages a pool of available IP addresses and leases them to clients
When a device connects to the network, it sends a DHCP request to the server
The server responds with an available IP address and other configuration details
The device then configures its network settings based on the received information

Dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) provides dynamic or automatic ip address assignment. Ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and dns server ip address are assigned automatically by DHCP server. It saves time and hard work.
