MPLS is a protocol used for efficient packet forwarding. It uses labels to identify paths instead of IP addresses.

MPLS stands for Multiprotocol Label Switching
Labels are assigned to packets at the ingress router
Labels are used to identify the path a packet should take through the network
Labels are swapped at each MPLS router along the path
The last MPLS router removes the label and forwards the packet based on the IP address
MPLS improves network performance and enables traffic engineering
Example: A packet with label 100 enters the MPLS network and is swapped to label 200 at the first MPLS router. At the second MPLS router, label 200 is swapped to label 300. At the third MPLS router, label 300 is removed and the packet is forwarded based on the IP address.
