Band descriptors are used to assess the performance of candidates in IELTS Task 1 and Task 2.

Band descriptors are used to evaluate the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in English.
Task 1 band descriptors assess the candidate's ability to describe and interpret visual information.
Task 2 band descriptors assess the candidate's ability to present and support an argument.
Band descriptors are divided into four categories: Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
Each category is graded on a scale of 0-9, with 9 being the highest score.
The overall band score is an average of the four categories.
For example, a candidate who scores 7 in Task Achievement, 8 in Coherence and Cohesion, 6 in Lexical Resource, and 7 in Grammatical Range and Accuracy would receive an overall band score of 7.
