Why do Aeroplanes fly at high speed but Cars don't?

They can't go as fast as planes generally. But even the ones that can have a few limitations. The main one being lift. Lift is the force of air pushing on an object. A planes wings provide that lift. Additionally the back fin (I can't remember the name of, maybe rudder?) Can shift to increase lift and change where the drag is to lift the aircraft. Cars have none of is.
