EVM machine is an electronic voting machine used for casting votes in elections.

EVMs are standalone machines that are battery-operated and can be easily transported.
They have two units - the control unit and the balloting unit.
The control unit is with the presiding officer or the polling officer and the balloting unit is kept in the voting compartment.
The voter has to press the button against the candidate's name and symbol of their choice on the balloting unit.
The machine records the vote and displays a beep sound and a light on the control unit.
EVMs have been used in India since 1999 and have replaced paper ballots in most parts of the country.
