The ports in my current project are utilized for communication between different devices and systems.

Ports are used to establish connections and transfer data between devices.

For example, we have a temperature sensor connected to a port on a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) to monitor the temperature of a machine.
We also use ports to communicate with external systems, such as a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, to exchange data and control signals.
The utilization of ports depends on the specific requirements of the project and the devices/systems involved.

1 serial port is used for fetching energy data from energy meters by modbus protocol 
2nd is used for transmitting data to SCADA system through Modem
And 3rd one ethernet port is used to communicate with HMI as well as for programming purpose
