The wind's kinetic energy is captured by the turbine blades and transformed into rotational energy, which powers the generator. A shaft that is attached to a rotor within the generator is turned by the rotating blades. A collection of magnets in the rotor rotate through a collection of copper coils that are stationary and use electromagnetic induction to produce an electrical current.

Typically, a generator produces low-voltage DC electrical current, which is then converted by an inverter into high-voltage AC electrical current. This AC current can then be used to power electrical equipment for homes, businesses, and other purposes.

In order to store extra energy generated during strong wind conditions, a battery bank is typically connected to the wind turbine generator. This energy can still be used to produce electricity even when there is little or no wind.
