3 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: We were asked to assume ourselves to be consultants who would be required to give some recommendations to the government regarding Global Warming i.e. measures to be taken to curb the present environmental scenario. 5 minutes time was given for collecting our thoughts and in a group of 5 members sitting around a round table, I was the one to initiate the discussion. I had very sound knowledge background about the topic since my projects were related to this area so I didn't find it tough. Valuable points like Awareness programs, Technology Transfers, and encouragement of R&D activities were shared by me.
Duration: 40 minutes

Round: Interview
Experience: The interviewer saw my resume and went through my subjects and some of my achievements. Since I had ranks in some Maths Olympiads, he started asking me questions from Fourier Series and transforms. Then he asked me me area of interest to which I replied, Electrical Machines and Power Systems. He asked me application based questions from machines for eg. why slipring induction motor is no longer used. And when it was used, what was the peculiar aspect because of which it was used. The answer was that slipring induction motor has a facility of external torque control. And then there were questions from Power System Protection and general questions from Power Systems. The interview lasted for about 50 minutes.

Round: Interview
Experience: They call it the behavioral interview in which they ask you to quote situations in which you faced conflicts, or led a team or took a major decision etc etc. The interview lasted for an hour and after that there was one more round of a case study.

General Tips: Set your priorities and choices right. ABB has tremendous brand value and reputation in the market. Be fully convinced when you go for any company. For ABB in specific, there are many rounds (1 online test in Warangal and rest in Bangalore), so please maintain your cool throughout the session. Be natural in behavioral interview and make sure your fundamentals of electrical engineering are sound.
