6 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I had a resume as per the standards laid down by our placement cell. I specifically highlighted my knowledge in Data Structures for Sum Total.

Round: Test
Experience: The first round was an online written test. The test comprised of multiple sections like logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude and pattern matching questions. Some questions with a time limit of their own were also asked – for example we were given a series of numbers and we had to find the odd one. Some situation based questions to judge our leadership qualities and decision making skills were also asked.
Tips: The test is different from those normally asked. They ask situational based questions which may repeat itself in different form in the same paper so as to check our response remains the same. So ensure that your answers remain the same even though the situation is put in a different way.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The next round was the Group Discussion (GD) round. We were divided into groups of 10 each. The topic allocated to my group was on the Indian Premier League (IPL). The company shortlisted 4 candidates from my group for the next round.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The company conducted two interviews. The first was the technical interview. They asked some basic questions on data structures like ‘What are the day to day uses of data structures?’ and told me to explain the concept of graph trees. In C++ they asked me explain the steps involved in creating stacks.
Tips: Prepare yourself with basic C++ programming for the interview. They only test your ability to solve basic problems which may be sorting, searching or simple applications of the formulae. Learn Data Structures as this is important for interviews.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: In the HR questions apart from asking the general questions like ‘Tell me about yourself’ and ‘What are your strengths and weaknesses?’ They posed a situation based question. The situation was that if I was handed over some work by the company and at the same time my friends propose that we go for a short trip then in that case what would I give more preference to.

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: Sum Total came for placement to our campus for the very first time and I came to know about the company and the profile from the pre-placement talk itself.
