Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There were two rounds of written test.
Round 1: 5 minute test based on mathematical calculations
Round 2: 30 minute test based quantitative ability and data Interpretation skills
Their sole purpose was to know whether you are capable of handling mathematical calculations easily and quickly. You just need to practice lots of multiplication, division and other simple stuff so that you become quick during the test.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR interview was a very different experience for me. I felt that they were looking for a guy who would fit best in their culture and has the ability not only to take risks but also assess it and mitigate it.

Some of the HR questions that were asked to were:-

Choose between Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose. I personally, would advise you to go for Mahatma Gandhi. If you go for Bose, they will reject you saying that you have a violent side to your personality which of course is not good for them.
What would you do if you were given 1 lakh and were told to jump off the first floor? 5 lakh for the 2nd floor? 10 for the 3rd floor?
Assess the risk in every situation and then using your reasoning, give the answer. I answered that for the amount of money involved i would jump off the 1st and 2nd floors but not the 3rd floor. At maximum I would break my bones or suffer a few fractures which is good enough for the money.

I give you 5 lakhs right now. Go and kiss the girl standing outside. Will you take the risk?
I said yes I will. She will slap me on the face or maybe get a complaint registered against me with the Dean. It will be a fair deal for the money involved.

Calculate 1292 within 15 seconds (without the pen of course).
657*53 within 15 seconds (again without the pen).
The interviewer asked me the length of the room. I said that it was around 18 feet. He asked me to convince him of the same.
I said, "Sir, my height is about 6 feet. So if I lie down 3 times along the length that should be enough reason for you to get convinced”. So I lied down on the floor along the length of the room thrice.

Besides this they also asked me some HR questions like why should we hire you, what are your goals and why are you suitable for the company. There were few other HR questions as well which were not so different form the regular ones.

Overall it was a very good interview experience. They were looking for people who can take risks and were not hesitant to take an initiative and then back their decision with sound thought process.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The company’s selection process was open for all candidates who had joined the institute through JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). They conducted a written test which was purely based on testing one’s ability to do quick calculation and proficiency in analytical skills. The test had around 30 questions which were to be solved in thirty minutes. Thereafter the selected candidates where asked to go through another round of written test with a higher level of difficulty. The questions could be answered easily if you have had sufficient practice of mathematics.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: After the written test there were two sets of personal interview taken by two different panels. They were checking my personality and my ability to fit into their team. They asked me about my extra-curricular activities and how it has shaped my thought process and my personality. They were really particular about one question which they asked from all the candidates – ‘Why do you think you are more suitable for the company than other candidates?’ They also asked me few generic HR questions about me, my strengths and weaknesses etc.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was no shortlisting as such on the basis of resume. Everyone was allowed to sit for 1st round which was a written test. In this round we were supposed to solve 30 questions of calculation in 5 minutes. I think those who managed to solve above 20 were shortlisted for next round which was an aptitude test.

There were 30 questions in 30 minutes. Aptitude portion was a bit tougher than all the previous tests of other companies. The questions were numerical calculations and quantitative aptitude. I could solve 22 questions only. People who managed to solve above 15 were shortlisted. 35 people were shortlisted after this round.
Duration: 5 minutes
Total Questions: 30

Round: HR Interview
Experience: After the written test I went through two rounds of interview. The questions were not company specific but were very generic. They wanted to explore the personality of the candidate. The questions asked included:

Questions about my strength and weaknesses
Ability to handle pressure and crisis situations
Examples where I have worked in a team and had shown leadership skills

As I had a good CGPA they grilled me a lot by saying that I was not suited for the company and asked me to justify my stand and why I felt I would be suitable for the company.
Overall I believe that if a candidate wants to get into the company he should be able to justify why he wants to be a part of the company. Also he should be able to quote examples of teamwork and leadership.
