5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: For Product management, I highlighted points in my resume. Sponsorship and PR core worked in my favour.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It lasted for about 45 minutes. He basically tested my knowledge on product management. He asked my questions on marketing, growth, demographic penetration.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Second interview was basically a follow up, lasted for almost an hour. He tested me on my consistency and some guesstimates. Like estimate the number of mobile internet users of Quora (which was my favorite product/service)
Tips: Knowledge wasn’t tested as such in any field. Important skill was estimation/prediction.

In the second interview, he followed up on questions from the first interview, so he tested me on my consistency. Consistency is very important!!

General Tips: Do's: If you have a project of your own that would work in your favor. Do many side projects.

Don't's: don't put gen start-ups. You will have to justify those

Practice Quant much earlier. It sets the base for the placement scene. Practice up. Other than that, keep doing the stuff your BC sends. I think that's sufficient. I think reading Economic Times might also help.

First year guys would be free. They should explore a lot of things. The second year, select the option you would want to pursue. Third year, start prioritizing.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Resume shortlist based on exposure to finance field.
Tips: Exposure to finance will be beneficial.

Round: Test
Experience: Essay test. Timing 1 hr. 2 essays on general topics. Q1. Why Finance? (Compulsory to answer)Q2. What India needs to do to become a superpower by 2020? (optional 1 out of 2 questions).
Tips: English skills, grammar and essay writing skills will be beneficial.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: 2 rounds.Starts with general HR questions like: Tell me about yourself.
Then a thorough review of my resume and detailed question on finance courses and internship. Questions on the basis of my answers to this question were asked. So make sure you know what you are talking about.
Current events questions. Take on market as in where to invest and where not to with proper reasoning. Some simple puzzles and behavioral questions.
Then they let us ask if we have any questions.
Tips: Be confident and have logics to your answer and a certain finance inclination.
HR is very important in Non-core. People sort of leave it at last minute and then they sound like scripted in interview. SO give yourself some time at least 10-15 days for getting your HR answers look right and real. Speak in front of friends or mirror.

General Tips: 1st and 2nd year:
Just explore different options to figure out your interests. Don’t restrict yourself and try every opportunity you get in any field.

3rd year:
Polish you selected area of interest. Talk to seniors and figure out best way forward for you.

4th year:
keep learning and make sure you have direction in your interest and not do anything and everything that comes your way in an interest field. Your resume should tell a “ I figured my interest out” like story.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: It included quantitative ability questions and a few subjective coding type questions. Nothing known about cutoff as almost major chunk of people appearing for the test were called for the interview. The criteria for test is mainly on CGs and at timesdepartments too. There are rare companies like BCG, DB who actually refer your resumes for interviews without tests.
Duration: 1 hour minute

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: 2 rounds of interview were there – first the technical interview which included questions on your resume. Detailed questionson every point you have mentioned, cross checking whether you really know aboutit at times asking you for examples. No speed math was included. The interview was purely on all the stuff mentioned in the resume.
Tips: Study the resume thorough with every point mentioned. Questionswere asked about things externally related (not in the resume) to stuffmentioned as part of skills. So while exaggerating any point be aware of everyfact about it.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HR interview included personal level questions like tell me about yourself, where you hail from, positives, negatives, why cognizant, why non-core, how do you see yourself after 2-3 years etc.The second stage may depend upon GDs or interviews. In this case it was purely one –on-one interview in both rounds.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: Mentioned about R a tool used in analytics and was talked about linear and logistic regression. Questions about Big Data Analysis and hadoop etc were asked.

General Tips: Its better to start from August solving CAT papers which helps a lot. Purefin certifications do help for companies like DB, Futures First, Nomura and all. Read only quantitative and a few previous years’ case studies (googled as per the company). Read one to two cases everyday and discussions related to them on the internet and write relevant points in some notebook at times searching for terms or phrases. Read the newspaper daily be it times or even the economic times – know whats happening in the world. They may ask you questions like – whats happening in the world. Be sure to answer them with what they would like to hear rather than what you would like to talk on.The situation is better for non core companies because majority of them don’t see the word department while recruiting from iit. Both for non-core or core: give your best for every round andeven if you don’t get selected for first round you can try to push your resumein on spot interview calls for companies you really want to be part of.Although it isn’t fair play but that’s what happens from Placemnt season day 2.And if the rest do it there's no point regretting than to be a part of it.

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: A balanced resume is preferred. It helped me in the further stages of the selection process, as everything was quite based on how was my resume.

Round: Test
Experience: It was actually and English skill based test, more like a basic clearance test. Two different rounds were there:(i)Listen/read and then fill up questions (approx. 45min) (ii) Telephonic test (computer generated test, approx. 15min).

I also appeared for other companies like Auctus and Reliance. Auctus had direct interview SL and Reliance had Aptitude and Technical (Mech) approx. 30 minutes each.
Tips: Aptitude is a must, so practice.
Duration: 1 hour minute

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: They actually tested the skills of the way you interact in a group and essence of your points. Felt that they didn’t concentrate much on speaking skills as such.
Tips: Practice to talk in groups, current affairs  and even random topics.
Duration: 10-15 minutes minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: Basic understanding of Big Data and tested on enthusiasm.
For others:

Reliance – Corrosion & welding based questions; it was mainly a technical round
Auctus – Only HR was taken
Housing – Puzzles and HR (same round)
Deloitte – Basic consult based questions on whatever was given in JD.

For core:Reliance – Corrosion engineering, welding courses and a bit of 1st year metallurgy. BTP was related to Corrosion and discussion about BTP happened.
Tips: Puzzles (for most startups) and HR & resume based for others mostly.

General Tips: Aptitude and puzzle preparation is a must. For interviews prepare things very much related to the company. (For startups knowledge related to their field might be a plus point)If people are looking for Non-Core: better that they do some good and useful non-core intern atleast once, taking part in competitions will also help.

2ndyears can learn ‘R’ or any other technical stuffs which can be useful for non-core (mainly, Fin or analytics)Case studies are good to prepare for one month atleast.
Skill Tips: Starting earlier helps and I started around October. Aptitude requires some time and it is better to start atleast during summer vacation. Last two months before placements can be spent for other preparations.
Skills: English based skills, How to interact with people, Aptitude
College Name: IIT MADRAS
Motivation: Mostly based on the enthusiasm towards the field of work and the basic understanding of it.
