Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: In this round there were different sessions including logical, technical questions on Networking, Operating Systems, etc. Out of all this part logical was easy and requires medium practice of quants. In technical all technical subject knowledge was checked at medium level, If you are form COMPUTER/IT/MCA then a quick revision to important subjects is required and most of the thing can be solved by common sense. It also had coding part in it, We were given two codes one which was easy and the other was bit tough. We were allowed to use online IDE’s.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: In this we were divided in to group of 6-7 people and were given simple topic. The other topics were not very technical. Out of that students were selected.
Tips: IMP points for GD for Xoriant :1) If you start be sure that you are really good at it and can continue conversation for a while, otherwise don’t take a chance.2) Do speak politely with audible voice, and please don’t create fish market and do give chance for others to speak.3) Try to bring some good points and be expressive.4) Do be ready with a conclusion, as individual conclusion were asked.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It is really very important of all as most eliminations are done in this and GD round. Do not fake yourself, be confident and try to speak about your projects if they are good. They will ask you basic code like factorial. Remember if you are highlighting your projects the next question will be about your role in it.
Tips: Do try to talk about new technology if you are working on any. They just want to see the SPARK in you, that’s it .Sell yourself good. Do practice basic codes please.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This was very smooth yet very important round. They are very frank with you, but please be wise and don’t go into that flow. They asked me about my family and my interests and about my projects. Please try to show them that you are doing some-thing that is important and you have the learning attitude. As, I was in ROBOCON, they asked me lot about how I used to handle the extra-circular activity, some questions on leader-ship. After that I was asked to leave. After some time they again called me, and asked whether I was comfortable with the job at Pune. Which I undoubtedly replied yes. And after the interviews were done they announced the results and three students were selected.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was no negative marking but I am not sure whether wrong answers were counted for elimination (though I feel they were not. The level of test was moderate and if you solve any CAT/CMAT books.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: There were 3 different panels (nos. might change). Allocation was done the basis of your performance in the test. I was ranked 3rd so I got a panel where I was first to enter. This gives you a lot of advantage if you absorb it effectively

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interview was about my interest, family background, likes, dislikes, higher education. He had all my answers written on back side of my resume. Be firm and honest. Don’t try to match your answers with theirs. If you have higher education in plan have an alternative answer. Know you strengths. Know you weaknesses and what are you doing to overcome them. Know where you would see yourself 5 years down the line.
And of course, Do you have any questions for me?

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: It was already 5 pm when I was called in for the interview and I was very exhausted. This was again a test of my programming skills. The atmosphere was not tensed at all as the interviewer was pretty relaxed and comforting

6 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 15 simple quant and logic questions with negative marking.People who could solve even 10 correctly were able to clear the aptitude round.
Tips: Don’t get stuck on one question. Go further and come back to that question if time permits.

Round: video synthesis
Experience: You’ll be shown a video clip of around 2-3 minutes from a Hollywood movie.  You have to write your inferences about the clip. Please do not summarise. For example: We were shown a clip from the movie “2012”. The scene showed the crowd fighting to get on the airplane which was permitted only to the ones with a green card (richer section). Then the main character telling heads of nations about right and wrong.  Now to answer this correctly, you can write about the bravery of the man, discrimination between richer and the poorer sections, etc. And incorrect synthesis would be: people are fighting to get on the plane, man is giving a speech, etc. Write at least 3 major points and 2 sub points to support every major point.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Groups of 4 were made. Likewise there were around 21 groups.  Each group was given a general management based problem, for example, the lowering sales of a so and so company. The group had to discuss about this problem and find a solution. There were 2 people from Musigma to guide during the GD. You can ask them necessary data related to the problem that is not mentioned. This will add to your scoring points.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Simple non tech interview. Feel free to talk anything   Be prepared for situation based questions such as, if you were the manager of a company then which kind of team will you prefer, generalists or specialists? I am the owner of a diaper producing company, I raised the price but still my sales are rising, how is that possible? Any lame but practically possible answer will do, but let him know that you are thinking. Don’t be quiet whatsoever.  I was asked about my family, the quality that I like the most about myself.  Be thorough with your resume because it will be scanned and will be the source to most of the interview questions. In the end, why musigma?  Then I asked him few questions about the company.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The test was conducted by cocubes.com. I didn't even clear the aptitude during the on campus process. It's fairly easy though. Attempt at least 13 questions. I think the cut-off was around 10. Around 450 students passed this barrier.

Round: case study
Experience: Some details were provided about a pharmaceutical company. We were expected to write down 3 questions that we deemed important regarding the details provided. Also we were to ask 3 additional questions that would give additional details about the problem statement. (10 minutes). These two rounds were combined and then there was an elimination. Around 100 people cleared these rounds.

Round: video synthesis
Experience: A video featuring Mr.DhirajRajaram (CEO of Mu Sigma) was screened. In the video, he explained the core values of Mu Sigma. We were expected to synthesise the video. Write down three main points about what we got from the video.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: Our GD was initially based on the video itself. After 10 minutes, our monitor gave us a new topic- Iron Man vs. Super Man. 3 from 8 people were selected. The selection was based on the quantity as well as quality of the matter you spoke. Again, these 2 rounds were combined and then an elimination. At least 50 cleared this round.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: There are scores given to you based on your performance in each round. So after the GD round, if you pass a certain threshold, you'd have only one interview with the senior HR. I didn't, so had to go through 2 interviews. My 1st interview lasted for 65-70 minute. The other half of my interview was based entirely on my resume. Questions about my experience as the Head of Finance for IETE and Udaan'14 were asked. I had to tell him in great details about what did I actually do. What did I learn from my experience and would you recommend your juniors taking up such positions.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I had to wait for 3 hours for the final interview confirmation. The last interview was a kind of a formality I suppose. Questions like tell me about yourself and my hobbies were asked. Then again resume based questions were asked. I was asked to ask some questions about the company. (Always ask). I asked two questions and I was done.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: It consisted of 20 questions primarily on C (What will be the output/error types). 3-4 of these questions were on basic logic, data structure, operating system etc.  30 minutes were given, which everyone found adequate. The test was not very difficult since I was thorough with books such as . Two codes were to be written, compulsorily in C. Both the questions were directly taken from the book Cracking. Question 1: A sorted array is given, but it is rotated an unknown number of times. Find an element in this array. Time complexity should be log(n).  Array example:  15, 17, 19, 50, 1, 2, 6, 8. I did not know how to do it. I tried a modified binary search but it did not work for all cases. So I just used a normal for-loop (Linear Search)Question 2: Find the in-order successor of a node in a binary tree.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Questions: 15

Round: coding
Experience: Write 2 functions(not entire programs) in C language on cocubes.com platform Q.1 Find an element in a rotated sorted array in O(log n) time. For ex. Find 4 in 7 8 9 1 2 4 5 A binary search technique could also do it in O(log n). They wanted an optimized binary sort and so I felt, the question wasn't clear enough. Didn't attempt it and told the interviewer the reason. Q.2  With a parent pointer in every node of a binary tree, find the in order successor of a given node. Solved only the second, but I ensured it could work on all boundary cases. Results of round 2 were declared on the day Microsoft visited the campus.

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: How would you find least common ancestor of two nodes in a binary tree? I said you could use two stacks, push nodes as you traverse and then compare when you are popping. He asked me to explain on the whiteboard. I did, but realised there was a problem, I looked at him and he was there, smiling as wide as he could. I asked for 2 minutes, and then gave him a better approach with a stack and a hash table. He seemed satisfied
Tips: Keep talking while you are solving a problem/writing code. This keeps him informed of your progress and if you are lucky, you might receive some help. He repeatedly had been asking me stand up and sit to explain everything on the board. So eat adequately on any interview day.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Asked me to write a function for reversing characters in a string and left the room. I wrote  4 lines of code to swap characters from ends. A vague question it was, he returned and explained what he wanted later. It was his fault but I politely apologized for not understanding the question. Remember: The boss is always right!

He wanted the string to be reversed alphabetically. So if it was "adecb", it should become "edcba". I wrote code. He had a 2-second glance at it, and then asked for an explanation

Round: Other Interview
Experience: A happy two hour discussion-cum-interview on designing another Facebook, all data structures, algorithms that can be used and features, optimisations that could be added. I asked him a few conceptual questions related to his subjects of interest and he answered delightfully. He gave me his email ID to contact him for more knowledge and for a second I missed my heartbeat, coz that might mean he won’t meet again. But results were announced and there he was, shaking my hands with a gleaming smile.

General Tips: Overall, it was a great experience interacting with them. Seemed to be a nice bunch of interesting people, looking for intellectual conversations with students.
