No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?

In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

As it is relatively flat organization, everyone has the opportunity to bring to the table- quantifiable impact, one needs to be proactive and needs to have bias for action - then surely this place becomes a blissful experience. People are always there to nurture and groom you. You need to seek help and reach out to the right people and you are pretty much sorted. I love training students, creating modules aligned with what the corporate India wants from young MBA graduates.

Dislikes

The washrooms, especially the women washrooms can become better, I always have to go to the UG floor to access cleaner washrooms and sometimes that's not possible. However, they are improving, as we are growing, the management is trying their best to provide the best experience to their employees

My reporting manager is a civil engineer, often priorities quick fixes (jugaad) over proactive approach and sustainable solutions, which can lead to firefighting approaches instead of addressing root causes.
