No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?
In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

Because computing permeates the modern world so completely, there is a vast number of job types of widely varying skill levels to which a young professional can aspire. The greatest challenge in finding a career in the modern world of computing is figuring out where you can best fit into the bigger picture. The ideal job is a well rewarded, stable position, well matched to your temperament, talents, formal academic training and past experience. To find such a position you must do an appropriate degree course, learn your strengths and weaknesses academically and professionally, discover what interests you and what bores you, and finally, identify an organisation which has a demand for your specific capabilities. In a highly competitive job market your best means of being successful is to develop your skills to match the types of jobs available in the industries available. Computers increase your productivity and, with a good understanding of the software running on them, you become more productive at everything you do. For example, once you have a basic understanding of using a word processor, you can create, store, edit, share, and print documents and letters.

The professional computer is open to innovation and readily adopts latest technology. I love the fact that I am a part of a team that markets reliable, high-quality products and has a global client base. As a result, I get to travel abroad, especially to the US and Canada. But on-site travel is completely dependent on your project and client’s location. Mine is a US based client and they have some offices in Toronto, hence I got a B1 visa quickly. Another plus point is that my colleagues come from various cultural backgrounds, and we work happily in collaboration. I also like the employee re-hire policy here.
