I joined the company in 2012. I learnt a lot from the company and my subordinates. Earlier, things didn’t follow a process. With the new management, things are structured. This can be good or bad, depending on the scenario. The whole editorial, dtp, graphics and animation department celebrates festivals together. They also cut a birthday cake on the last day of the month, celebrating all the employee birthdays of that month. Earlier, there was no training available. We learnt, whatever we did, on the job. Book making is an elaborate process with many stages. I feel that the editors are left out of getting involved in key stages. This puts the employees at a disadvantage when they go to the next company and are expected to do those process. Also, being afemale, I would say that I felt restricted in when I wore. There is no dress code, but you are expected to wear decent clothes-fair enough. But if a female wore formal dresses or knee-length skirts, people would stare. Some of the older employees are very rigid in how they think and what they do. Promotions are delayed. I stayed in the same position for 4 years and when I gave the reason that I wasn’t promoted in my exit interview, my manager said that ‘I didn’t ask for it’. So ask for it.
