The SM Group is a family-driven professionally-managed business house headquartered in Guwahati, the gateway to North East India. It was established in the year 1960 by Late Mohan Lalji Jain as a partnership firm Shewprasad Mohanlal with primary interests in Steel and Finance.
An outstanding visionary, a humble human being and a great philanthropist, sustainable and overall growth of the society came to him naturally as his guiding business philosophy. Late M.L. Jain had been encouraging contract plantation, cottage industry of handlooms, citronella oil extraction and various ideas of rural sustenance since the early 70s in interiors of the region – at a time when most businessmen were primarily focusing on trading activities in Guwahati. With such rich traditions, absolute assimilation with the indigenous society and with a vision to develop innovative products and services, the SM Group has an immensely strong entrepreneurial DNA.
