Hungry and thirsty Australians can count on Coles. Coles Group is one of the country's largest food retailers with more than 740 supermarkets run under the Coles and Bi-Lo banners, 785 liquor (Liquorland, Vintage Cellars, 1st Choice), and 620 combination gas stations and convenience stores (Coles Express). It also offers online grocery shopping and owns a portfolio of 90-plus hotels across Australia. The company sold its Myer department stores in 2006 and changed its moniker from Coles Myer to better reflect the chain's sale. Coles has operated as a subsidiary of business conglomerate Wesfarmers since the group's more than $18 billion takeover in late 2007. Coles is halfway through a five-year turnaround plan.

- ACCC's history of holding supermarkets accountable is promising for enforcing the new rules, potentially improving the shopping experience for consumers and raising product quality from suppliers.
- The reforms offer a promising start to enhancing the supermarket sector in Australia, aiming for more competition, transparency, and fair treatment for all stakeholders.
