Founded on 24 April 1948, the CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute is the world’s largest R&D centre in leather. That an institution for R&D in leather was required for this nation was felt by the Father of the Nation itself.
The original mandate of the institution, at the time of inception, was to enable the Indian leather industry undergo transformation from the supplier of raw hides and skins into a reliable source of value-added leather products.
