Backend Software Development Engineer

• VIAVI Solutions is seeking top-flight frontend, backend, and data pipeline software development engineers to join our lively and dynamic development team creating a ground-breaking market leading solution
• The team develops RAN Assurance and Automation solutions for customers around the world
• The solutions are truly Big Data , processing and storing billions of events a day
• You will join a team working on the next generation of scalable assurance systems developing a microservice architecture utilizing leading edge containerized Linux instances orchestrated by Kubernetes
• The solution must be reliable as it scales to handle the extremely high data rates and offer options to flexibly manage the load and provide graceful degradation if overloaded, ensuring that it provides the best service to our customers
• The team is divided into several multi-disciplinary sub-teams covering the suite of solutions organized into vertical delivery streams supporting a full CI/CD pipeline using an Agile development process

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work effectively and efficiently with others on the R&D team to develop a winning product roadmap
• Continue to expand, focus and leverage personal and team knowledge base and technical abilities in constant pursuit of developing a superior product
• Follow the Agile Product Development model to constantly optimize feature, time to market and project budget while maintaining an uncompromising high level of product quality
• Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
• Use Behavior Driven Development or Test Driven Development to deliver well-designed, tested code
• Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements
• Develop automated software unit tests and integration tests
• Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
• Troubleshoot and debug existing systems
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
• Be an effective, contributing team member, improving technologies, and consistently applying best practices

Basic Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
• Excellent English-language written and verbal communication skills
• 2 or more years of software development experience, using an Agile methodology (eg, SCRUM or Kanban), including design, development, and testing activities.
• Experience in developing commercial software products
• 2 or more years of software development using Java
• Experience with version control systems (Bitbucket/Git preferred)
• Apache Maven / Gradle
• Experience working in a Linux environment (RHEL or Oracle Linux preferred)

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with some or all of the following:

• Engineering/Mathematics or Statistics disciplines, with strong quantitative and applied mathematical skills.
• Developing applications using a containerized Microservices architecture
• Java microservice frameworks such as Spring Boot, Quarkus, Micronaut, Javalin
• Designing, developing and using RESTful APIs supporting JSON or XML
• Developing automated unit tests
• Working in a CI/CD software development pipeline
• Swagger API framework
• Kubernetes
• Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana (ELK stack)
• Monitoring system performance with tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
• Apache Spark
• Relational databases (eg, PostgreSQL)
• Cucumber automated tests
• JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA or other JetBrains tools
• Atlassian tool suite, including JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket/Git, Bamboo
• Behavior-driven or test-driven development
• Deployment of applications in a cloud-hosted environment
• 2 or more years of Python programming
• Familiarity with well-known Python packages like Pandas, Numpy, etc., and deep learning (DL) frameworks Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
• Certification courses in Data Science/ML
• Familiarity with statistical techniques and current ML techniques, both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques and other ML Techniques.
• Implementation experiences and deep knowledge of Classification and Regression, Time Series Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, XGBoost, LSTM, Prophet, Random Forest.
