Roles and Responsibilities :
- Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
- Perform database administration tasks such as backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, and maintenance plans.
- Design and implement database solutions for new applications and enhancements based on business requirements.
- Implement and manage database security, including creating and maintaining users and roles, assigning privileges, and auditing usage.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues and performance bottlenecks, including proactive identification and resolution of issues.
- Monitoring database performance using tools like SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, and DMVs (Dynamic Management Views).
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database schema, queries, and stored procedures.
- Provide on-call support for critical production systems.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
- Developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts and T-SQL scripts for automation tasks.
- Automating routine maintenance tasks such as backups, index maintenance, and statistics updates.
- Implementing monitoring alerts and notifications.
Qualification and Skills :
- B.Tech/MCA in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 18+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA in a high-availability production environment.
- Strong experience in database design, development, and performance tuning using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Experience with SQL Server 2014/2016/2019 in clustered and non-clustered environments.
- Proficient in T-SQL scripting, SSIS, SSRS, and other SQL Server tools.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Experience with database security, performance optimization, and best practices.
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all stakeholders including senior management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically while acting tactically.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automating routine DBA tasks such as backups, restores, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with source control systems (SVN, Git, TFS) for database versioning and deployment tools like Redgate SQL Compare or SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT).
- Ability to diagnose and resolve database-related issues such as connectivity problems, performance bottlenecks, locking/blocking, and corruption.
- Understanding of Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, including provisioning, scaling, and monitoring in the cloud environment.
- Expertise in SQL Server real-time replication.
- Expertise in DB/Table partitioning and archiving.
- Expertise in DB capacity planning.
- Expertise in n-tier application architecture, design including DB design.
