Job Description - Pre Sales Engineer
Who are we?
Syook is a Series A funded established Industrial IoT startup headquartered in Bengaluru, working in the B2B space. We work with some of the largest enterprises in the world to help optimize their operations. Customers include large enterprises like Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser and the Tata Group. We are currently on the path of high growth and productivity, and great culture building (because we know the two go hand in hand). We are looking for folks who will ask questions like why/why not, what can I do to make this better, how can I help the company and most importantly, what can the company do to help you!
Our flagship product, Syook InSite, is a proprietary, cloud agnostic, no code platform, that allows businesses to visualize their operations, helping clients experience operational excellence from day one. InSite is an Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) solution that uses various technologies like BLE beacons, LoRa, GPS, etc. to generate highly-accurate location data of all your resources (both assets and people), at much lower costs than comparable technologies. The result: Quick RoI and Improved Operational Performance. It's Industry 4.0, ready for deployment!
Role overview:
- First and foremost, we're looking for people who are excited about what we're doing - you necessarily need to know about IoT, and should be excited to learn about new developments in the area. We are really passionate about what we are building and get a deep sense of satisfaction when our tech delights customers. Our people are our greatest asset and we believe in fostering an environment of trust and responsibility.
- We're looking for a person who can blend in their passion for technology with their passion for convincing people.
- A technically sound engineer with the sales mindset of being able to read a customer's mind and convince them; someone who can collaborate with the sales support or account management team by acting as technical experts in customer presentations. In addition, you will also determine the technical requirements to meet client goals and act as liaison between the organization's sales/business development and engineering groups.
- You must love products that excite customers. You will own and be responsible for communicating our organizations' ideas and products in a way that kindle's the customers' interests in buying them.
- You should be able to explain complex technical stuff to customers in layman's terms and also be the technical expert with clients who are technology geeks.
Your daily work could involve any of these (or a combination):
- In-depth understanding of the products and solutions being offered by Syook
- Interactions with the technical decision makers inside client organizations to understand their technical and operational requirements
- Mapping the client's requirements with our solutions and creating technical proposals using the client inputs and standard product documentation
- Contributing to engaging product presentations to the client, convert complex technical explanations into simple logic so even the non-technical clients can comprehend the solution
- Position and defend our products and solutions with the technical decision makers
- Create case studies based on the outcomes of the existing deployments which can be used for better product positioning in the industry
- Technically convince the client about the logic behind our solution approach and influence their thought process to treat our solution as the industry benchmark
- Evaluate RFPs and Tenders, prepare technical compliance and solution documents
- Competitor analysis - create technical comparisons with competing products and technologies
- Understand the market requirements and help the sales to drive the technical strategy and provide inputs to R&D for product roadmap and improvements

Why you might not be excited about us?
- We're small (~40 people in the company now), so if you like more established companies, it's not (yet) the right time. You'll help build our company's culture.
- Since we're a scaling startup, projects and priorities may shift continuously and you must be comfortable with that.
- Our customers love us, and there's a lot we can improve. It's a great place to be, but there may be some jank here and there. (Nothing too scary! )
- We can't (yet) provide constant close mentorship for junior folks. As we grow, we'll get a lot better at this.
- Since you'll have a lot of responsibility and creativity over projects, they may not be defined perfectly initially. You'll be expected to bring your own experience and perspective to help us do the right things, and raise flags if you think we should do things differently.
About you:
- None of these are requirements, but do describe the kinds of people that we think would be most effective at Syook right now.
- Must be flexible, independent and a self-starter who can work with little supervision.
- Love thinking broadly about marketing and thinking creatively about how to express the same to our consumers.
- We love strategy, but the ability to execute is mandatory. We believe that any plan or strategy is only as good as execution.

Apart from the above, technically the following are our requirements:
- BE/BTech background is a must
- Excellent communication Skills (both verbal and written)
- Confident, with out of the box thinking and capable of independently working towards objectives without constant supervision
- 3 - 6 years of tendering and solutioning role for a B2B technology company, preferably in the IoT or software domain or Telecom/Networking domain
- Prior experience in product development / management / operations / deployment in the B2B domain
- Should have handled customer facing technical interactions and presentations
- Capability to respond to complex technical questions while thinking on the feet
- Should be willing to travel at short notice

Interview process
4 easy steps to get hired
You'll talk to someone from the People Services team (over phone) to get to know you and mutually explore if we might be a good fit for each other. You'll learn more about Syook and have a chance to ask any questions about our company, team culture, and product in the next steps.
1. Presales challenge:
- You will be given a pre-sales challenge to solve and showcase your technical and communication skills.
- The assignment will contain 2 problem statements should you choose to solve only one of them and submit a technical proposal of no more than 2-3 pages.
2. Business acumen round:
- This round will be with our Head of Sales. Here you will have the opportunity to showcase and defend your assignment solution with a deck of no more than 3-4 slides. You will also get to understand what more your role is all about and how you can grow with us.
- Feel free to ask for feedback at this stage, and any other questions you may have about the company and we will be happy to share the same.
3. Talk to our Founder:
- This round will be with one/two of our Founder(s). You'll be talking about the absolute passion for this role, and also why you are the right fit.
4. People & Culture fit round:
- If you reach this stage, it automatically means that we're convinced of your technical skills.
- However, that's never enough for us. We want to ensure that you will feel comfortable working with us and that we can give you an environment where you can be your productive best. We will use this discussion to understand what you bring to the table apart from your technical skills in terms of initiatives, personality, and a certain entrepreneurial mindset.
