Medical Coder

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments into alphanumeric codes for insurance billing, record keeping, and regulatory compliance. The Medical Coder will ensure accuracy and efficiency in coding and work closely with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation for reimbursement and statistical purposes.

Key Responsibilities: •

Code Medical Records: Review and code clinical and procedural data from patient charts, records, and documentation, following industry coding standards such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.

Billing and Reimbursement:

Ensure that coded data is submitted for reimbursement purposes, working closely with insurance companies and healthcare providers to address coding discrepancies or denials. •

Quality Control:

Verify the accuracy, completeness, and clarity of medical coding, ensuring it complies with legal, regulatory, and insurance requirements. •

Medical Terminology Application:

Apply extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to determine the correct codes for medical conditions, procedures, and treatments. •.

Compliance and Regulations:

Maintain an understanding of updates to coding standards, payer guidelines, and HIPAA regulations to ensure compliance in all coding processes.

Documentation and Reports:

Prepare reports on coding activities, trends, and compliance audits, providing accurate data to help with operational improvements and audits.

Collaboration:

Communicate with healthcare clients for training and updates.

Maintain Coding Systems:

Stay current with the latest coding guidelines, software tools, and technologies for optimal performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: o High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical coding is required (e.g., CPC, CCS, or CIC). o Bachelors degree medical related field is preferred.
• Certifications (Preferred): o Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA.
• Experience: o Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical coding field. o Experience with various coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, etc.) and knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. o Oncology experience required.
• Skills: o Excellent written and verbal communication. o Proficient in medical coding software and healthcare management systems (e.g., Epic, 3M, Cerner). o High attention to detail and accuracy. o Ability to work independently and in a team environment
